You sit down at your desk, already to start!
Today is the day you’re going to take action that starts bringing in those clients and growing your business!
Then you look at your to-do list….
And you can feel the hesitation, procrastination and anxiety rise!
The first couple of tasks look pretty big and daunting. You decide to start with something easier, knock it out, then you’ll feel better. But which one?
2 hours have gone by, you’ve checked your emails, fed the cat, done an online quiz to find out what type of potato you are and responded to a Facebook post.
But you’re no closer to building your business than you were before…
Ever had a day like this? Or even a week?
I find that there are two main reasons why I struggle to prioritize, and end up busy, but not productive….
“It’s not enough to be busy, so are the ants. The question is, what are we busy about?” – Henry David Thoreau
1) I’m usually not sure what will move the business forward.
What WILL actually bring in the clients? Is it phone calls? Who should I call? Should I invest the time to build relationships with clients, or set up engaging posts?
Indecision is not productive. It’s hard to focus and move forward, when you’re second-guessing what you should be working on.
2) The things most likely to bring in business are the most (emotionally) difficult.
Setting up your foundations, writing articles, and other ‘business structure’ tasks need to be done. But they aren’t going to bring in clients and money in the short term.
Although, they are the safe option….
They aren’t as scary as reaching out to a prospective client or a referral and asking them to join you on your journey.
So how do you prioritize differently?
I’m sorry to say but the only way to move your business forward is to take those huge leaps of faith, jump outside of your comfort zone and do the things you’ve been putting off…the hard things…
And to make this easier for you,
The cat can wait and you’re a sweet potato ?
